Heavy medal score for teamNUS at Public Service Meet 2013
This year's Public Service Meet saw a great turnout for the NUS staff swimmers.
Dedicated training efforts and high spirits during the meet were rewarded by the largest number of medals garnered by the men's team in the past 4 years (1 gold, 3 silver, 6 bronze). Especially cheerful was the senior's 4x50m freestyle relay team who narrowly beat their closest rivals to third place and bronze medals. Overall, teamNUS finished again in 5th place out of 17.
Clockwise from top left: Alberto in his favourite event, 400m freestyle; animated team discussions; Pepe swimming 50m backstroke; the medal-winning senior relay team; Andrew setting a new record over 50m breast; the 2013 teamNUS shining brightly.

Impressive 3rd place in the Kapas-Marang Swimathon
The staff swimmers managed to bring home additional honors to NUS with Jana coming in 3rd in the women category, swimming the > 6.5 km open water course from the island of Kapas to mainland Malaysia in a mere 2 hours.
First place overall was won by the German champion over 25k Benjamin Konschak in a time of 1h28min. Martin managed to swim butterfly throughout the whole distance (not surprisingly, he was the only contestant in the fly category). But the greatest respect of all earned a small group of
physically handicapped people that managed to successfully finish the
race course within the 4h cutoff time. Most notably, a swimmer without any
arms attached to his shoulders swam a 7.5 km drift course in a stunning
3h42min (this is neither a joke nor a typo). Kudos and Congratulations
to all 300+ contestants! And thanks to Simon for sharing the above photos with us.

Aquathlon season 2012
The SAFRA Biathlon is usually the kick-off event for the aquathlon season. Traditionally the date is announced bit more short notice, but it's been in early February in recent years. The MetaSprint (formerly Tribob) Aquathlon is Feb 19. The NUS Biathlon may be towards end of March again. Stay posted on our "Events" tab for most recent updates on upcoming events and competitions.
Those not keen on running, please raise your hand if you're eager to form a relay team with one of our speedy staff runners. We'll try to coordinate/hook you up with each other.
Be prepared for another round of fun open-water trainings in Jan/Feb (usually Saturday morning on Sentosa, followed by Brunch). Volunteers wanted for helping organize the aquathlon season - please shout out.
