April 15: APSC Swim Workshop and Stroke Clinic

We have been talking about it since quite some time, finally it's becoming true: a customized swim workshop for NUS staff, partially subsidized by the gracious UHC Wellness Division!

Sunday April 15th, 09-15h, Farrer Park Swimming Complex

We are proud to present APSC as the host of this workshop, probably the best and most professional swim school in Singapore. The workshop is suitable for all staff swimmers at all levels, whether you aim for getting the stroke basics right, or work on your ultimate stroke refinement, the expert senior head coach Yeo Peng Seng and his friendly team will be glad to cater to your personal needs. The workshop will provide presentation and drills for all four strokes for those who are keen, plus videotape analysis of your freestyle stroke, plus some very useful take-home advice to build upon. Your personal contribution would only be S$100 for this six-hour expert workshop, which we think is a very good investment in your swim skills and a very attractive offer for the package we negotiated. Please sign up with Cord or Sven no later than Wednesday, April 11th, or contact us for additional information.

New coach for Tuesday lunch-time training

Tuesdays from February 14 onwards, we are privileged to be coached by David Tay, who is also the head coach of the NUS student team. We are confident that David's outstanding coaching skills will provide a more disciplined and more professional level of swim training, leading to an optimal event preparation for the Public Service Swim Meet on July 7. Please take note that the net pool time will be changed to 12:00-13:00 during this period, so please join us at 12:00 sharp in the pool if you can. Please let us all show our great appreciation for this training opportunity by regularly attending the Tuesday sessions. The more the merrier!

Aquathlon season 2012

The SAFRA Biathlon is usually the kick-off event for the aquathlon season. Traditionally the date is announced bit more short notice, but it's been in early February in recent years. The MetaSprint (formerly Tribob) Aquathlon is Feb 19. The NUS Biathlon may be towards end of March again. Stay posted on our "Events" tab for most recent updates on upcoming events and competitions.

Those not keen on running, please raise your hand if you're eager to form a relay team with one of our speedy staff runners. We'll try to coordinate/hook you up with each other.

Be prepared for another round of fun open-water trainings in Jan/Feb (usually Saturday morning on Sentosa, followed by Brunch). Volunteers wanted for helping organize the aquathlon season - please shout out.

Additional lunch-time training on Wednesdays

Starting from Sept 14th, a new slot will be available for training on Wednesdays. Same time as the other days: 12pm to 1pm. Training will be conducted by Fabio and Brice.

We intend to focus on the other strokes than front crawl, in particular the butterfly. We will start easy, with repetitions of small distances with plenty of resting time, and hopefully we will be able to swim more than 200m without break by X-mas.

All levels are welcome. Fabio has enough technical background to give technical advices, but the focus really will be more on endurance...

Stroke technique for beginners and advanced

During September and October, NUS Staff Swimming will put a special training emphasis on the less advanced swimmers amongst us:

Have you been to shy to join us for our regular training session?
Has all the rumble about competitive swim events on this website felt intimidating?
Have you felt too slow or inexperienced to join the staff team for training?
Have you been waiting for a perfect timing to commence swimming with us?

If your answer is "yes" to any of the above, we want you to join us from September 6th onwards! The more experienced swimmers amongst us will be glad to share their knowledge and experience, and in fact will be happy to further improve their own stroke technique as well. On top of all, we will be organizing a one-day swim workshop with professional coaching and stroke clinic. Stay tuned for more details coming soon...

Master swimmers please join next two training sessions

There is two more serious training sessions before the Singapore Masters Swimming. These two sessions will represent the intensity peak of our event preparation. Please try to rank swim training high priority for at least these two days and make your way to the pool in time:

Friday August 19th 12-13h
Tuesday August 23rd 12-13h

Thereafter we have only three tapering sessions with decreasing intensity and lots of jump diving, turn practice etc:

Friday August 26th 12-13h
Wednesday August 31st 12-13h (in replacement for the Tuesday holiday)
Friday September 2nd 12-13h (optional)

Please don't hesitate to contact Alberto or Sven should you be interested in retrieving more detailed information.
